    Every business and every individual needs to have some kind of accounting system in their lives. Otherwise, the finances can get away from them, they don't know what they've spent, or whether they can expect a profit or a loss from their business. Staying on top of accounting, whether it's for a multi-billion dollar business or for a personal checking account is a necessary activity on a daily basis if you're smart. The Pantech Vega that just hit Korea may boast a sizable 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, but don't expect future phones from the Helio manufacturer to follow suit -- after suffering the same shortages that drove HTC to Sony's SLCD-illuminated doorstep, Pantech's also temporarily giving active-matrix organic technology the boot. Now, you may not give two nickels about the technologies in Pantech's next handset, but the firm's got a finger on the industry's pulse. So when an unnamed executive says "phones to be rolled out in the first half of next year" won't use AMOLED, that hints at when the shortage for US-bound devices might also let up. In case you're curious, 2H 2011 is when Samsung's next AMOLED facility is slated to open, though by that point AU Optronics and TPO Display should be shipping the screens as well.

FBI wants Wikipedia to remove its seal

Wikipedia has its critics, but now the Federal Bureau of Investigations thinks the online encyclopedia is breaking the law.

In a letter to Wikipedia (PDF) dated July 22 and posted by The New York Times, the FBI demanded that its official seal be removed from a Wikipedia article about the FBI because the agency had not approved use of the image.

"The FBI has not authorized use of the FBI seal on Wikipedia," the letter said. "The inclusion of a high quality graphic of the FBI seal on Wikipedia is particularly problematic, because it facilitates both deliberate and unwitting" copying and reprinting of the FBI's seal.

The letter goes on to threaten legal action if its demand is ignored: "Failure to comply may result in further legal action. We appreciate your timely attention to this matter."

However, Wikipedia thinks the law-enforcement agency may have misread the law it cited in its letter and is willing to go to court to prove it, if necessary. "While we appreciate your desire to revise the statute to reflect your expansive vision of it, the fact is that we must work with the actual language of the statute, not the aspirational version of Section 701 that you forwarded to us," Mike Godwin, general counsel for Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit company that runs Wikipedia, wrote the FBI in response. (18 U.S.C. 701 prohibits the manufacture, sale, or possession of any badge, identification card, or other insignia, of the design prescribed by the head of any department or agency of the United States for use by any officer or employee of that agency.)

Godwin argues that the statue prohibits the unauthorized reproduction of the insignia on badges and identification cards--not encyclopedia articles.

"The use of the image on Wikipedia is not for the purpose of deception or falsely to represent anyone as an agent of the federal government, Godwin wrote in the letter, which was also posted by the Times. "We are in contact with outside counsel in this matter, and we are prepared to argue our view in court."

An FBI spokesperson defended the message of the letter. "You can't use the FBI seal, by law, unless you have the permission of the FBI director," William Carter told the Times.

Cindy Cohn, the legal director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, told the Times that Wikipedia has a First Amendment right to display the seal with the accompanying article and called the dispute "silly" and "troubling."

Google services reported down in China

Several of Google's Web services in mainland China were reported as fully blocked on Thursday including Web search, YouTube, Ads, and Blogger. Those reports turned out to be incorrect due to misinformation from Google's Mainland China service availability chart. Other services, including Google Images, News, Docs, and Groups were also misreported as "partially blocked." (See update at the end of this post.)

The news came just a week and a half after the Chinese government dubbed Google's moves toward complying with government regulations to be satisfactory. The week prior, Google was given the go-ahead to continue as an Internet content provider, with a renewal of its operating license.

According to the availability chart, the one still-functioning Google service was Gmail, which has been "fully or mostly accessible" since Google began tracking availability in late March. Prior to Thursday's blocks, Google's Web search, Image search, and News site had been up and running for days without issue. However, its Mobile product went from being partially blocked to fully blocked:

Reports from Twitter users in China, including Kim Rathcke Jensen who is Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende's China correspondent say that Google is still "working fine over Wi-fi and 3G. Similar Tweets were logged from two other China-based Twitter users, confirming Google's statement that its products were still functioning.

Worth mentioning is that Google's availability chart considers full blockage 67 to 100 percent of its local servers in Mainland China, meaning that there could still be large amounts of the country that are not affected by such blocks or outages. The same goes for the partially blocked segment, which as of Thursday include Images, News, Docs and Groups. The partially blocked segment runs a fairly wide gamut at 10 to 66 percent blockage.

Google's political moves with China began in January when the company announced that it would no longer be censoring its search results to comply with local laws. The decision was made, in part because of Google being a target of an attack to get information about human rights activists. Google then announced in late March that it was planning to move its Chinese language search engine from China to Hong Kong, while making available only the products such as Music and Product Search that did not need censoring.

Update at 5:07 p.m. PDT: A Google spokesperson has issued a statement saying that the servers used for determining accessibility of the company's services "could overestimate the level of blockage," and that there could have been a block at the time when the last report had been aggregated:

Because of the way we measure accessibility in China, it's possible that our machines could overestimate the level of blockage. That seems to be what happened last night when there was a relatively small blockage. It appears now that users in China are accessing our properties normally.

Looking for the right gift for your favorite Facebook friend? A new service from the team of Amazon and Facebook can recommend the right products for shoppers by peeking at their Facebook profiles.

Launched as a beta on Monday, the new opt-in service will suggest gifts for your friends by checking out their favorite movies, music, books, and other items derived from their Facebook accounts. And if you're in the mood to buy something for yourself, Amazon also looks at your own Facebook profile to suggest products that might interest you.

You can try out the service by browsing to Amazon's recommendations page where you'll see the "Tap into Your Facebook Network" pane on the right. Click on the Sign in and Connect button. After you confirm your Amazon credentials, a window pops up describing the service and asking you to connect with Facebook.

A Facebook page warns you what content you'll be sharing with Amazon, including your basic profile information, your friends' lists, and your friends' profile information. If you opt in, Amazon then fills the recommendations page with products popular among your Facebook friends and items you may want to buy for yourself based on your own interests.

The page also displays a list of friends with upcoming birthdays so you know who to put on your immediate shopping list. You can also see a list of all your friends. Clicking on the name of any friend displays that person's interests and favorite items from Facebook to help you pick out the right gift, and of course buy it on Amazon.

You can also view that person's Amazon Wish List if one exists. But I did find one bit of a limitation here. Amazon tries to find the wish list for one of your friends based solely on name. So if your friend has a common name and few details, you may have to wade through dozens of wish lists before finding the right one.

Aware of obvious privacy concerns, Amazon promises not to share your account information or buying history with Facebook or attempt to contact your Facebook friends. What if you decide to cancel the service after trying it out? You can disconnect from it, which removes any Facebook content from your Amazon account.

Security researcher demonstrates ATM hacking

LAS VEGAS--Hacking into an ATM isn't impossible, a security researcher showed Wednesday. With the right software, it's actually pretty easy.

Barnaby Jack, director of security testing at Seattle-based IOActive, hauled two ATMs onto the Black Hat conference stage and demonstrated to a rapt audience the fond daydream of teenage hackers everywhere: pressing a button and having an automated teller machine spew out its cash until a pile of paper lay on the ground.

"I hope to change the way people look at devices that from the outside are seemingly impenetrable," said Jack, a New Zealand native who lives in the San Jose area. One vulnerability he demonstrated even allows a hacker to connect to the ATM through a telephone modem and, without knowing a password, instantly force it to disgorge its entire supply of cash.

Jack said he bought the pair of standalone ATMs--one manufactured by Tranax Technologies and the other by Triton--over the Internet and then spent years poring over the code. The vulnerabilities and programming errors he unearthed during that process, Jack said, let him gain complete access to those machines and learn techniques that can be used to open the built-in safes of many others made by the same companies.

"Every ATM I've looked at, I've found a game-over vulnerability that allows an attacker to get cash from the machine," Jack said. "I've looked at four ATMs. I'm four for four." (He said he has not evaluated built-in ATMs like those used by banks and credit unions.)

He said both Tranax and Triton had patched the security vulnerabilities since he brought them to the companies' attention a year ago. If a customer with an ATM such as a convenience store or a restaurant doesn't apply the fix, though, the machines remain vulnerable.

Hacking into ATMs is not exactly a new idea: It was immortalized by a young John Connor in the "Terminator 2" movie, and techniques like "card skimming" and "card trapping" are well-known by police.

Some enterprising thieves have even seized on ways to use a little-known configuration menu to trick ATMs into thinking that they're dispensing $1 bills instead of $20 ones. (Traditional methods of stealing an ATM, ramming it, cutting into its safe, or blowing it up still work too.)

But those other electronic cash-extraction techniques were limited because they didn't rely on a deep analysis of an ATM's code. Many run Windows CE with an ARM processor and an Internet connection or a dialup modem, all of which controls access to the armored safe through a serial port connection. Jack said he used standard debugging techniques to interrupt the normal boot process and instead start Internet Explorer, giving him access to the file system and allowing him to copy off the files for analysis.

In the case of Tranax, a Hayward, Calif.-based company, Jack said he found a remote access vulnerability that allows full access to an unpatched machine without a password needed. He wrote two pieces of software to exploit that programming error: a utility called Dillinger, which attacks an ATM remotely, and one called Scrooge, a rootkit that inserts a backdoor and then conceals itself from discovery.

Scrooge "hides itself from the process list, hides itself from the operating system," Jack said. "There's a hidden pop-up menu that can be activated by a special key sequence or a custom card."

Triton's ATMs didn't have an obvious remote access vulnerability. And the built-in vaults were well-armored. But the PC motherboard that dispenses cash from the vault was protected only by a standard (not unique) key that could be purchased over the Internet for about $10. So Jack did, and found he could force the machine to accept his backdoor-enabled software as a legitimate update.

Bob Douglas, Triton's vice president of engineering, showed up at the conference to stress to reporters that the vulnerability has been fixed. "We have developed a defense against that attack," he said. "We released it in November of last year."

In addition, Douglas said: "We have an optional kit available to replace the lock with a unique key. It's a high-security lock as well. I think it's a Medeco lock." But he said because some companies that service ATM machines might own 3,000 of them and visit dozens or hundreds a day, not all customers choose to upgrade.

Jack was scheduled to present a similar talk at Black Hat last year, but it was pulled at the last minute after an ATM vendor complained to Juniper Networks, his then-employer.

The difficult part in hacking the ATMs was evaluating the software for vulnerabilities--but the Dilligner and Scrooge utilities Jack created as a result are easy enough for a child to use.

Tabs get tweaked in Firefox 4 beta 2

Mozilla's 2nd Firefox 4 beta debuted on Tuesday, with interface and feature improvements for Windows and Mac users, and under-the-hood changes that include faster browser launch times. Available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, Firefox 4 beta 2 doesn't make any radical visual changes to the browser, but it does introduce a couple of new features and support for new developer tools.

The only interface change made this time around was to give Mac users the tabs on top look by default. Windows users received that feature in the first beta. This can still be reverted under Preferences. Linux users have yet to receive tabs on top by default.

One of the big features that some users have been anticipating in Firefox 4 is App Tabs, analogous to Google Chrome's Pin Tab feature. It reduces a tab to its favicon, and then anchors it permanently on the left side of the tab bar. This can make it easier to find regularly frequented sites, such as Web mail or a calendar. To create an App Tab, right-click on a tab and choose, "Make into an App Tab." One of the principal designers on Firefox, Alex Faaborg, has created a video that details how to use the App Tabs. He also notes that App Tabs will receive some kind of special treatment in the upcoming Tab Candy feature.

How Firefox 4 functions and handles the code that powers the Web has changed slightly, too. The biggest change, made to the XPCOM registration, has the potential to break a lot of components that interact with Firefox. While that could result in a lot of headaches over the near future, users should see faster Firefox start-up times in the long run.

Meanwhile, part of the CSS3 Transformations, called Transitions, are now supported in Firefox 4. This means that developers will be able to build content that animates instead of effecting an immediate change. Curious readers can check out the yellow box demo on the Mozilla Hacks blog. Support for retained layers also shipped in the second beta, which allows for faster page scrolling.

Mozilla also noted that user comments sent via the "feedback" button on the right-hand side of the navigation bar helped the publisher fix more than 670 issues in the first beta. Future betas promise to include new features such as the aforementioned Tab Candy and the redesigned add-on framework, currently code-named JetPack, but also to resolve unsettled debates such as whether to remove the Status Bar and the struggle to improve the browser's overall site-rendering speed.

Google fixes Chrome holes, seeks security reform

Just before the Black Hat security conference begins, Google has patched seven secuity holes in its stable version of Chrome and begun an effort to speed up the software industry's response to such vulnerabilities.

Google paid two $1,337 bounties for work that let Chrome avoid critical security problems by sidestepping vulnerabilities in Windows and the widely used glibc software library, according to a Monday blog post about Chrome 5.0.375.125 by Jason Kersey of Google's Chrome team.

Also through its program to reward those who find Chrome security holes, Google paid those who found three high-risk vulnerabilities and one medium-risk vulnerability. The final issue, a low-risk problem, elicited no payment.

That incentive program got more serious in July, when Google announced a new maximum reward of $3,133.7 for severe bugs. (If you're not in on the leetspeak joke, that means "eleet," better than the mere "leet" level that was attainable before.)

Google is trying to steer the security agenda in more ways than just paying those who find holes. In a blog post last week by a group of Googlers, Google called for reform to the "responsible disclosure" practice for sharing newly discovered vulnerabilities.

With responsible disclosure, a security researcher privately notifies a software maker of the vulnerability, announcing it only when the software maker has a fix ready. It contrasts with full disclosure, which gives no such grace period but which also lets users of the software know as soon as possible they may be affected. After all, a computer attacker might have discovered the vulnerability independently and could be exploiting it before the software company has a fix prepared.

"We've seen an increase in vendors invoking the principles of "responsible" disclosure to delay fixing vulnerabilities indefinitely, sometimes for years; in that timeframe, these flaws are often rediscovered and used by rogue parties using the same tools and methodologies used by ethical researchers," the Googlers said in a blog post last week.

"We believe that responsible disclosure is a two-way street. Vendors, as well as researchers, must act responsibly. Serious bugs should be fixed within a reasonable timescale," they said. "Whilst every bug is unique, we would suggest that 60 days is a reasonable upper bound for a genuinely critical issue in widely deployed software."

This is Audi's new A7--the sleek, upmarket lift back previewed by the Sportback concept at the 2009 Detroit auto show. The A7 aims to provide the company with a stylish but practical rival to contemporary four-door luxury cars such as the Jaguar XF and the second-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS.

Revealed at a gala presentation in Munich on Monday, the A7 is the second lift back model launched by Audi recently, following the smaller A5. It's based on the same platform as next year's A6 and boasts an initial range of V6 gasoline engines with the promise of a more powerful V8 in an upcoming S7 performance variant scheduled for introduction in 2012. The new four-door is being looked upon to significantly boost Audi's market penetration in North America when it goes on sale here early next year.

Drawing heavily on the earlier Sportback concept for inspiration, the A7 displays elements of Audi's current design lineage, where it receives a prominent single-frame grille. However, it makes a decisive break with current Audi's models at the rear with a heavily sloping window and trunk lid, which are integrated to provide a large, electronically operated lift back-style tailgate that provides easy access to a the trunk.

Inside, the A7 gets a unique dashboard design overlaid with switchgear from the A8. Again, it leans heavily on the Sportback concept with a low-set fascia intersected by a broad center console. Initial versions of the new Audi will get a four-seat layout with individual rear seats, but a five-seat version with a three-across the rear bench is also planned.

The new Audi's mechanical underpinning is a development of the company's Modular Longitudinal Platform in an arrangement that will also be used by the next-generation A6--alongside which the A7 will be produced at Audi's Neckarsulm factory in Germany.

Using a conventional monocone structure rather than the expensive space-frame arrangement seen on the larger A8, Audi has provided its newest model with a range of weight-reducing measures, including aluminum front suspension towers and a part aluminum body.

The gasoline-engine lineup includes the supercharged 3.0-liter making 300 hp that are claimed to hit 62 mph from standstill in 5.6 seconds en route to a highest possible speed of 155 mph.

An S7 performance model is also planned but not due to reach the U.S. market until 2012. Audi is not providing any details to its future Jaguar XF-R and Mercedes-Benz CLS550 rival, but Ingolstadt officials hint at it is in line to receive a new twin-turbo charged version of Audi's existing 4.2-liter V8 delivering about 480 hp with the help of a new pie-equipped direct-injection system.

Furthermore, under consideration for addition to the lineup is an even more powerful RS7 model. Conceived around the same twin-turbo charged 5.2-liter V10 used in the RS6, it's not likely to be launched before 2014. Reflecting the upmarket positioning of the A7, the RS7 will come with the same equipment levels and optional features as the new A8.

However, as it turns out, at least one major OEM is still banking on software to help differentiate its phones. HTC's Drew Bamford told Forbes that Sense UI will still appear in the company's Windows Phone 7 creations, and believes it will live on in Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) as well. "Microsoft has taken firmer control of the core experience," acknowledged Bamford, who added that Sense wouldn't be fully integrated into WP7 phones, but that HTC would "augment" the Microsoft experience with as-yet-undisclosed functionality of its own. In slightly more than a year, Google Chrome has surprised users and critics alike by acquiring a skyrocketing percentage of the browser market share. That attention and heavy usage is not undeserved. Chrome 5 is blazingly fast, more stable than previous versions, and introduces support for extensions, better bookmark syncing and management, browser preference syncing, and further HTML5 innovations.

Based on WebKit, the same open-source engine that powers Apple Safari, Google's Android mobile platform, and several other Web-browsing tools, but with a different JavaScript engine, Chrome's interface remains a drastic departure from other browsers nearly two years after it first debuted. Instead of the traditional toolbar, Chrome puts its tabs on top. Moreover, the tabs are detachable: "tabs" and "windows" are interchangeable here. Detached tabs can be dragged and dropped into the browser, and tabs can be rearranged at any time. By isolating each tab's processes, when one site crashes, the other tabs do not.

The search box and the address bar have been fused into a hybrid "Omnibox," which includes suggestions for URLs culled from your browser's history and search suggestions from your search engine. It remembers site-specific search engine results. There's also Application Shortcuts, a feature that lets you create desktop icons for Web-only applications, such as Gmail. The stealth mode, Incognito, lets you surf without the history-recording cookies, and can work with all of your extensions or just the ones you choose.

Unlike previous editions of the browser, version 5 feels fully baked in a way that they didn't. There are still complaints about wonky Web site support, but those tend to be the rare exception, and not the general rule. Minor problems aside, Chrome should be a serious option for anybody who wants a browser that gets out of the way of browsing the Web.

Facebook Tops 500 Million Users

Facebook, the social network created in the dormitories of Harvard six years ago, said on Wednesday that it now had 500 million members.

The company has grown at a meteoric pace, doubling in size from a year ago and pushing international competitors aside.

Each month, Facebook says, more than 30 billion photographs, links to Web sites and news articles are shared through the site, and its members spend roughly 700 billion minutes there.

“This is an important milestone for all of you who have helped spread Facebook around the world,” Mark Zuckerberg, the company’s 26-year-old chief executive, said in a company blog post.

Facebook’s dizzying rise has not been without stumbles. Most recently, the company was the focus of intense scrutiny over changes to its site that encouraged members to make more information about themselves accessible to anyone on the Internet.

A recent survey by the American Customer Satisfaction Index showed that user satisfaction with Facebook stood at 64 on a 100-point scale, which placed it in the bottom 5 percent of the companies covered in the index.

Facebook’s popularity has also spurred competition from the likes of Google, which views the billions of links and hours spent on the site each month as a threat to its business.

But if anything, the site’s steady growth in spite of its setbacks only validates the company’s approach, said Ray Valdes, an analyst at the research firm Gartner.

Facebook has been aggressive in pushing users “to the edge of their comfort zone,” Mr. Valdes said. “But Facebook has proven that it can weather those challenges and still grow.”

Mr. Valdes, who estimates that Facebook is adding 50 million new members each month, attributed the company’s rapid ascension to its continuous effort to change and improve the service.

“That keeps it bubbling away,” he said.

Ford to reveal the redesigned 2011 Explorer online next week

After months of teasing about 20,000 Facebook friends, Ford Motor Co. will reveal the redesigned 2011 Explorer to the public on Monday.

It's the first time an automaker has revealed a redesigned vehicle online rather than at an auto show.

The public reveal also will take place in front of employees, dealers and members of the media at Ford's world headquarters in Dearborn, Mich.

The 2011 Explorer, which goes on sale this winter, is a new design. It is now a crossover engineered on a car-based platform rather than a truck-derived SUV. No pricing has been announced.

Ford sees the Honda Pilot, Toyota 4Runner and GMC Acadia as the Explorer's main rivals.

Under its plan to reveal the Explorer online rather than at an auto show, the automaker gradually has been releasing information about the crossover on Facebook, including teaser images.

"We wanted to have the Explorer stand out" from the crowd of unveilings and other events at a big auto show, Eric Peterson, Ford's crossover marketing and communications manager, said in an interview last month.

Ford also plans to show the 2011 Explorer at auto shows this year, with the Los Angeles show in November marking the redesigned model's auto show debut.

Market shifts

The 2011 Explorer underscores a new reality in the U.S. marketplace: Demand for truck-based SUVs has collapsed, while sales of car-based, fuel-efficient crossovers have soared.

In its new generation, the Explorer no longer will offer a V-8 engine. Instead it will offer a 3.5-liter V-6 as standard and an optional two-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine.

Ford says the smaller engine will increase fuel efficiency 30 percent compared with the current V-6-equipped Explorer. Both engines will come paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, also for improved fuel economy.

The 2011 Explorer, which seats seven, will use the same platform as the new Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS sedans and the Ford Flex crossover. The Explorer also will offer third-row seats as standard equipment.

The current Explorer, equipped with two-wheel drive and a four-liter V-6, is rated at 14 mpg city/20 highway. With a 30 percent increase in fuel economy, the EcoBoost-equipped Explorer should deliver 18/26.

Ford engineers used lighter and stronger high-strength steels such as boron to add durability and reduce weight on the new Explorer. Other weight-saving moves include an aluminum hood and a one-piece composite front bolster -- the radiator support between engine and grille -- that is 65 percent lighter.

Apple squeezes the reception out of Nokia N97 mini

Apple seem keen to prove other smartphones have the same reception attenuation as the iPhone 4. And they are getting back with a video of Nokia N97 mini that suffers from the same grip of death as the iPhone.

Back at Apple Antennagate press conference last week Apple failed to show a faulty Nokia handset (probably because Nokia has a smaller smartphone market share in the US), but nonetheless Nokia came forward with a statement on the matter last weekend.

So Apple is keen to strike back at Nokia and the N97 mini is the next victim of Apple's accusations.

As the following video reveals, the S60-based smartphone loses signal if you cover its antenna with a hand. As a result, the N97 mini drops from 7 to only 2 bars. The question remains though - would that drop be bad enough to cause a dropped call as it is on the iPhone 4?

It's not even funny anymore. Who's next? Motorola? Sony Ericsson? We'll see. Stay tuned.

Jeep and Mopar go haulin'

Jeep and Mopar are teaming up to create a line of rugged trailers to go anywhere and haul anything.

The Jeep Trail Edition campers will match the conventional Jeep in colors and ruggedness, including 32-inch tires, diamond plating and a tall enough suspension to navigate big ruts. The trailers will pop open to sleep four adults while offering 76 inches of headroom. They are also made to accommodate parts from a Jeep, including bumpers and spare tires. The cost of the aftermarket package is $9,995.

The Extreme Trail Edition campers will be even more hard-core, offering even bigger tires and full underbody skid plates. The Extreme Edition also includes a more robust hitch with a 360-degree rotating axis for maximum off-road maneuverability. The Extreme package costs $11,995 and will be available from Mopar dealers.

Both editions will feature a 110-volt power converter for cooking and heating, a pop-up table and cabinets for camping gear.

Acer Stream to land in the UK on 3rd August, we've got it now

The Android-running supersmartphone Acer Stream is almost ready to start its invasion. Reportedly, the phone will start selling in a few days, at the beginning of August. If you want to be among the first Stream owners, you'd better hurry up and pre-order yours.

The Acer Stream was unveiled some two months ago but, apparently, the company is ready to launch the Eclair-loving device on 3 August. Along with Android v2.1 you get a gorgeous 3.7-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen (with multi-touch support), HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth connectivity as well as a built-in GPS receiver and a micro HDMI port. The Stream also packs a 3.5mm audio jack, sports the Dolby Mobile technology and on its front there are dedicated multimedia controls.

As you can see, we've just received our Acer Stream review unit so stay tuned for the in-depth review that should be posted really soon.

Twelve new episodes of the accidental cultural phenomenon will air this summer.

It being the winter time (meaning less tanning, more gym and laundry), Paul "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino, Jenni "JWoww" Farley and the other lucky wicked-awesome types who live with them were all available for off-season negotiations.

But, considering how big-time they all are now, what with the crowded club appearances and the famous fans, we hear that it was a little trickier geting them all onboard this time around.

The New York Post reported this week that the GTL mates wanted $10,000 per episode, and lots of leeway for club appearances, for their continued participation in the surprise hit.

We doubt that MTV will be confirming anytime soon what they've had to shell out to keep their prize stallions (and fillies) in the stable.

Knights cruise to first win

THE Sisowath Knights claimed their first Cambodian Rugby Premiership win of the season Sunday by dominating early and cruising to a 22-12 win over top of the table Stade Khmer.

The Knights capitalised on continual poor lineout plays and a huge advantage in the scrum to race out to a 10-0 lead thanks to tries by number eight Dan Weatherall and Kane Stewart on the breakaway. Stade Khmer missed ample opportunities to score, the most telling one coming just before the first drinks break, when a pass out wide with the line begging went to ground.

The French-run side again struggled with set pieces after the interval as a lineout on the Knights’ try-line was stolen and cleared by Sisowath flyhalf Conrad Warren. Play continued downfield, when brilliant footwork by Warren almost resulted in a spectacular individual try. He beat three defenders and weaved through a scrambling defence before being cut down just short of the line, with flanker Rob Baker diving over just moments later to help the Knights take a commanding 15-0 lead into halftime.

Homes evacuated in San Antonio as hill crumbles

SAN ANTONIO – Construction crews moved dirt to shore up a group of houses precariously perched on a crumbling hill in San Antonio on Monday as engineers tried to determine why the land below was shifting, causing dozens of homes to evacuate.

Gaping crevices, some 15 feet deep, cut across several yards as dirt cascaded into a towering stone retaining wall that nearly split in half. Fences crumpled like accordions as crews packed dirt under one home and around its exterior after part of its foundation was exposed.

One soil expert said the cause of the landslide appeared to be the result of poor retaining wall design, and a city official said the nearly 1,000-foot-long wall in the upper-middle class neighborhood of sprawling two-story homes was built without a permit.

No one has been injured, but about 80 homes were evacuated on Sunday after a resident in the northwest side subdivision reported that his backyard was sliding down hill. By Monday afternoon, residents in about 55 of those homes were allowed to return after inspections and soil monitoring found them to be safe, said Valerie Dolenga, a spokeswoman for Pulte Homes Inc., the parent company of the neighborhood's builder, Centex Homes.

One neighbor who was among the first homebuyers in the subdivision set among rolling hills on the outskirts of San Antonio said he was initially told no homes would be built on the crumbling ridge because it was too steep.

Romeo Peart, 32, said one retaining wall failed several years ago before the current one was built and homes were constructed above it.

"They can keep the view now," Peart said, shaking his head as heavy equipment stuffed dirt beneath an exposed foundation. "And they paid an extra $10,000 for those lots."

The development, which was started in 2004, has nearly 750 homes with others under construction. The neighborhood, with houses selling for $250,000, is one dozens that have sprung up on hilly former ranch land as San Antonio grew to be the nation's seventh largest city.

The near-vertical retaining wall likely failed under the weight of the area's clay soil that readily expands when drenched with heavy precipitation as it was last week, said Sazzad Bin-Shafique, an assistant engineering professor and soil expert at the University of Texas-San Antonio who went out to the site on Monday. Steep, tall retaining walls can hold up if built correctly, he said.

"It's safe, honestly. We have engineering solutions, but sometimes we do something because we want to reduce costs," Bin-Shafique said. "Many times, it will be OK, but sometimes, it will not."

Roderick Sanchez, the city's planning and development director, said the builder built the retaining wall without a permit. The city was still waiting for verification that the wall was designed by a certified engineer and built to specifications, Sanchez said.

Dolenga said the city approved construction plans for the subdivision including the retaining wall, though she said the company was investigating the permit allegation. She said she didn't know if the street with the now-jeopardized homes was added later to the subdivision's plans, though developments are usually built in phases.

"We've been building out there a long time. This is an unusual circumstance," she said.

Engineers spent Monday assessing each of the structures in the evacuated area, while fire officials escorted some families to retrieve belongings from the neighborhood. At least seven homes would likely remain vacant for an extended period, said Fire District Chief Nim Kidd, who is also the head of the city's emergency management office.

Kenny Crawford, 32, asked fire officials to be allowed to retrieve his car and some belongings on Monday, but because his home is directly below the disintegrating wall, he and his girlfriend were told it was too dangerous.

"They really haven't given us any info," Crawford said. "We don't know what's going to happen. Of course, property values are going to fall."

Dolenga said geologists and engineers were looking for a cause of the slide and monitoring for any additional movement of the dirt that was sliding at a rate of 4-inches-an-hour on Sunday. She did not know if there was additional movement on Monday.

Utilities were cut off in the area, and construction crews were moving dirt to shore up the homes on the hill and to protect those below the retaining wall.

Resident Lakeika James, 41, said she had noticed odd noises over the three years she has lived in her house.

"I would hear, laying in my bed at night, grumbling and vibrations. A few nails popped out lately," she said.

She said she hadn't planned on staying in the house long-term, and now after the landslide, the mother of a 5-year-old girl wants out.

"I'm just going to be uncomfortable and worried for my family," she said.

We notice there are some process like : global.exe, keyboard.exe… in Task Manager.

When your computer infected by this kind of viruses, you will get the following error when trying to open Adobe Photoshop and the other ‘bigger’ software.
“This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.”

Solution:

For this viruses, you just install the Symantec Enpoint Protection v11 with the latest virus definition. It will detect and delete all those viruses from your system. But what the fuck of those viruses is you still not be able to open Adobe photoshop.exe or other program and you can not access to the control panel or control panel applet.
